Kenwood

Kenwood House and Humphry Repton’s landscape gifted to us
The Henry Moore Reclining Figures watch over the meadow
Our space for dreaming, a blanket, and shared food and wine
Kenwood House calming pictures mirrored; boy feeds a squirrel

The ancient wood, oak, beech & hornbeam, surrounds our path
Camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons border the meadow
A feast of pink, red and white, their scents a healing touch
Like the Barbara Hepworth sculpture in memory of her son

Jackdaws, stock doves and kestrels sing as the afternoon fades
Mark their place on trees beside the lake in the leafy shadows
Ducks of all nations meet, coots, moorhens, mallard, mandarin
Carp, pike, roach & perch their companions just below the surface

Fox chases rabbit into ferns; bright green parakeets, a brief dogfight
Disarmed, we’re warmed, stretched, softened, in the summer light
