Number 9

by C.Strøm

Rendition of Green Bailey)

I hear the train a-coming
it’s coming around the bend
a-puffing and a-whistlin’
with a load of railroad men

Fare you well my darling,
fare you well my dear,
Fare you well my darling
I hate to leave you here

If I go to Cubey,
I won’t be back ’till fall
and if I wreck old number nine
I won’t be back at all

When I ride old number nine
I hear the whistle blow
Fare you well my darling
I’ll think of you no more

If I die a railroad man
bury me under the tie
so I can hear old number nine
as she go rolling by
