The Queen’s Reign is Ending

The Queen’s reign is ending
With comedians joking
That, “Her vagina’s so old it’s haunted”

And, “She’s been married
To a Greek for so long that
Her back passage resembles

A broken cat-flap…”
Once upon a time,
Things were different –

In the old system,
Before the Norman Conquest,
Kings and Queens were elected.

There was a gathering
Of the tribes called a Witan,
Which held elections.

They’d try to find someone
Whom they could hold in respect.
If they were no good –

Too full of themselves,
Or they’d become corruptible,
They could be replaced.

It was the Normans
Who imported monarchy
As we now endure it,

But their hereditary
Monarchy was un-English,
An alien transplant.

Untraditional,
Or, in other words, bollocks –
A conjuring trick,

Performed by the rich
To overawe the poor, and
To hypnotize them.

It keeps rich people
In power.  It deifies plutocrats
By suggesting they’re good.

The Queen is President
Of a Celebocracy
That worships money.

She’s Queen of a state of
Economic apartheid,
So she’s resented.

The pathology
Of the rich – their diamonds,
Their encrusted souls –

Anaesthetizes
The ship of state, and steers it
Into the doldrums.

From the rottenness at the top,
A royal disease trickles down
Infecting the body politic.

But when a tradition
Is long past its sell-by date
It should wither away.

Ben Franklin once said
There are no hereditary
Mathematicians,

And inherited wealth
Is equally redundant.
Both cause imbalance.

The great and the good
Are neutered by stale baubles:
Lord Pratt, O.B.E.

Inequality
Metastasizes throughout
A snobbish system,

While sweet harmony
Is what society strives for,
Not royal tumours.
