Walking over the Golden Gate Bridge

Walking over the Golden Gate Bridge.
Looking right – San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz, the city skyline.
             and left – the Pacific.

Holding open in my right hand
             Allen Ginsberg’s book Howl.
In my left hand my phone
filming the path ahead on the bridge, while I walk
             recording myself reading out loud
the opening lines of a poem I love called
              ‘America’.

Challenged by
the wind trying to blow over the pages,
the noise of this wind and the traffic
                making me raise my voice,
the odd pedestrian and me having to manoeuvre
                pass each other.
             I ask myself –
‘Do I look mad filming this reading?’

Which I finish by saying,
‘America’ and may I, Tim Bannon, add myself,
                          my own country Ireland
                          and the world,
              ‘when will we be angelic?’
