Blue Hem

from one water’s edge to the other

the layers were scornful

I pull that they don’t cover

and I can’t move.

Stars are the assassins of ages

I am waiting, trembling for a blue

hem to lengthen, to trace

the tip of the last mountain.

fresh burns

the liver becomes blood

Is this the beginning of a new line?

a mouth that passes warmth on

I breathe, pass my balminess to the dark

keyhole that sees

night peeps in

and closes the window.
