Because there was not much else to do
and there was nothing on the television
worth watching I decided to go for a stroll
around the neighbourhood. The old man
and the kids looked at me gone out as if
I was mad to wander around here: a woman
on her own in the evening was asking for
trouble. But they didn’t go out of their way
to stop me, and I met a couple of really nice
lads outside the convenience store who
were very chatty and were very keen on
making friends and now we are. But the old
man isn’t happy and says I’m fortunate
to still be alive but he’s wrong, very wrong.
