SLOWNESS OF LIGHT

Inchoate desultory conflicted and ridiculous
In studying for the part of Everyman
The actor must be meticulous…
Thus a passage of character’s chances
Parades across the stage in my head
In a daisy chain of notions
Strung together through a tenuous thread
By
A muddy metalled rascal obsequious in his mien
Who
Twitches and vellicates while keeping schtum
About indiscretions unforseen

But these are chalk marks on a pavement
They are what the artist means to say
Come the next fall of rain
They will all be washed away
