I watched a Kenyan woman speaking in Swahili
to her estranged uncomprehending son.
I could almost follow some of it because
my alcoholic stepfather
the Reptonian military major
veteran of the Mau Mau Rebellion
used to storm around the house
in a drunken rage, screaming
in Swahili.
