Begging the Question

Ignorance

Would it be easier
to go through life
feigning ignorance
about all the atrocities
that rage across this earth?

Would it be simpler
to smile
if I just pretended
not to care
about the empire
covertly overthrowing regimes
across the Middle East
for the past sixty some odd years?

Would laughter come
more readily
if I never researched
how the State Department
helps fund and arm terrorists
using NGOs and CIA operatives,
or how there is currently
an internal war
going on in the military
as factions of resistance
have finally become fed up
with such dastardly tactics of war?

Would it be better
to just wave a flag
and blindly salute
the very institution
that causes so much chaos?

Would sleep come
more soundly
if I just shut up
and went silent
about the Federal Reserve,
fractional fiat currencies,
and dirty derivative pyramid schemes
that keep citizens
broken in destitution
at the bottom
of the system?

Would my heart be light
and fluffy with glee
if I just said, “Ghee,
it doesn’t matter
that the food
is spiked with carcinogens,
the water is laced with chemicals,
and the air is poisoned
beyond the scope of sanity?”

Maybe the answer is yes,
and perhaps I’m just
a glutton for punishment,
but whatever the case may be,
I rendered my verdict long ago,
and so I’ll keep carrying on
as best I can each day
while pointing at the problems
and saying, “Hey, it is most likely
a solid idea
to start screaming for solutions
before salvation slips beyond our grasp
and time has elapsed
on all these fun and games.”
