Grizzly Bear

I got up this morning
and drew back the curtains
to see a grizzly bear
standing on the lawn.

What the fuck! I thought.
Grizzly bears are not indigenous
to the north of England.

Nevertheless there it was,

so I ran round the house
locking all the doors
(can grizzly bears open doors?
I’ve no idea but

I imagine what they lack
in opposable thumbs
they make up for
with brute force).

Then, I thought,
I ought to warn the others,
so I took a photo
through the window,

with the intention of sharing it
on a number of social media platforms,
only when I looked at the photo,
to my astonishment,
there was only a garden.

The bear
wasn’t there.
