Only some songs
stay on, in the slippery
stream, tenacious roots.
On granite,
etched in red
telling the
pain, joy of being
alive.
Simple songs you come to meet
in
a mall
elevator
airport-lounge
living room
on
nights of misted
windows, ghostly
yards, a big surprise, in
a city on the banks of the Lethe!
Their presence
vital and relevant
in shifting tides.
Quietly, these
snatches surface
from
their murky depths.
Echo
across
labyrinths of memory,
the old tunes.
Doors open
another face pops up
in the mirror.
Songs!
Some stay on,
loyal friends hailing
in
crowded bazars.
Forgotten, the names of poets, yet
you
hum their lines of their songs
in solitude,
the words, their inherent
music
haunt a lifetime!

A marvelous poem, Sunil. The names of poets may be forgotten, though their words “Echo/across/labyrinths of memory …”
