the hum of traffic on the A6108
audible only when you stop to listen
interrupted just for a moment by the noise
of someone moving stuff about (a bin perhaps) then
sunlight diffused through cloud elucidating leaves
on a laurel-hedge (some green some turning yellow)
& how everything connects
to everything else one way or another
like the latest in the series of pigeons
that has followed me around all of my life
it’s call one artefact among so many
reminding me how some things change so slowly
they perpetuate the illusion (it’s no more than that)
that all things that matter stay the same
