“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” (Mahatma Gandhi)

“’Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these…you did it to me.’”
(Matthew 25:40)

Midsummer Murders

In Yulin, China,
The Midsummer is blood red.
They steal and kill dogs:
Skinning from throat to anus.
Screaming cats face the same fate.

The Baby Killers

‘Country’ fox hunters,
Spend their summers killing cubs;
Digging them from dens –
Watching while hounds tear newborns.
Mocking at animal life.

The Fate Of Furry Animals

On Ireland’s mink “farms”
The animals live in hell:
Cramped in wire cages –
Anal electrocution
Or gassing, their only hope.

A Bleeding Luxury

Feather down is made,
By plucking live geese, who bleed;
Their suffering great –
So that we can dream soundly,
In unethical comfort.

Tobacco Slave

While all of England sleeps,
A beagle screams out in pain:
Her lungs smoke-broken;
Forced to inhale for weeks now –
Deprived of God-given air.
