What keeps me awake at night

I am afraid
I am afraid of the day
When medicine harms more than poison
When Every vote puts you in a prison
I am afraid of the day
When nuclear war is profitable
and peace talks impossible
I am afraid of the day
Borders hold their nations as hostages
Where Heroes and patriots not distinguishable from savages
I am afraid of the day
Any disaster equals business
The death of many a guarantee
 Of a few elite’s happiness
I am afraid of the day
The American dream is just a nightmare
When kids die with no one to care
I am afraid of the day
Every mind is rotten
And common salt is fake,  pure salt forbidden
I am afraid of the day
When we hide behind shadows
Our voices heard only
In the reflection of our phones
I am afraid of today
To be too far, too late
And afraid of a pain
That we can’t eliminate
I am afraid that  tomorrow will go unchanged
When the cause of yesterday’s war
Goes completely unchallenged
I’m afraid of the day
The elderly have to offer their seat
In respect To the ones who paid for it
I’m afraid of the day
Blood is donated to corporations
And donations are sold to patients
I’m afraid of the day
Life is priced
Limbs tagged and shelved
I’m afraid of the day
Learning is memorizing
And thinking a crime
I am afraid of the day
A machine is worth more than a man
And a man serves a machine
Man gets fired for lack of precision
And a machine makes that decision
I’m afraid of the day
A pet is more provided for than a child
whose birth is called an accident
I am afraid of the day
When we open the gates of hell
And you won’t hear screaming
But the laughter of
The burning entertained ignorants
I am afraid on that day
In heaven, comedians will cry
Knowing they did what they could
Said what needed to be said
And that saved nobody
I am afraid, on doomsday
God will sell the afterlife
He will be busy with his cash
While the devil scratches his beard
With the hint of a smile.
